CERTIFIED RECOVERY PEER ADVOCATE (CRPA)

General

The CRPA or CRPA-P’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The CRPAor CRPA-Pwill serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.

Credentials/Experience

High school diploma / G.E.D.

3letters of recommendation.

May be part or full-timepaid or voluntary work experience.

Must be certified by OASAS as a CRPA or CRPA-P

General Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Engage with individuals who are considering entering treatment.
  2. Engage clients to attend treatment or other healthcare services.
  3. Engage individuals in continuing post discharge services or aftercare.
  4. Raise awareness of existing community resources and other support services.
  5. Assist engagedpeersindeveloping Peer CenteredRecovery Plans.
  6. Help peers self-monitor their progress.
  7. Model effective coping skills.
  8. Attend court and other legal system meetings as a support.
  9. Facilitate non-clinical peer support groups.
  10. Support peers in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.
  11. Maintain patient records and reportsas required.
  12. Maintain a high level of cultural competence and the impact health care, mental health and substance abuse treatment based disparities have on urban/suburban minorities

The CRPAor CRPA-Pwill be supervised by the program director(QHP)staff member to ensure peer support services are consistent with patient’s treatment plan.
